Sara Gideon

Sara Gideon is running to unseat the much-reviled Susan Collins (R) who, you may remember, voted to approve Brett Kavanaugh and acquit Donald Trump.

Gideon’s father is a pediatrician from India and her mother is of Armenian descent (Source: Wikipedia). She is currently Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, where she has served since 2012. She has voted to expand women’s rights, extend state benefits to the poor, increase Maine’s high-skilled workers supported access to healthcare for all, promoted renewable energy sources, and increased energy efficiency. Gideon has a BA in International Affairs from George Washington University and previously served as an intern for former US Sen. Claiborne Pell, and as Vice Chair of the Freeport Town Council. She has also worked as an Account Executive at USA Today.

Gideon has around 80% of the cash on hand vs. Collins and is polling slightly ahead. She is the leading candidate in the Democratic primary to be held this July.
